Troubleshooting
Solutions to the most common issues: meeting detection, permissions, transcription, billing limits, and calendar sync.
A meeting wasn't detected
MagicScreen relies on macOS permissions to spot your meetings.
- Confirm Screen Recording and Accessibility are enabled for MagicScreen in System Settings → Privacy & Security. See Installing the desktop app.
- If you just enabled a permission, quit and reopen MagicScreen — macOS often requires a restart for Screen Recording and Accessibility to take effect.
- As a fallback, start a manual recording with the round red record button on the dock.
A permission won't "stick"
If a permission still shows as not granted after you've toggled it on:
- Toggle it off and on again in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Fully quit MagicScreen (not just close the window) and relaunch it.
- Re-run the Permissions screen and confirm all three show green before clicking Continue.
No transcript or insights appear
- Check the dock shows a recording state. If not, press the record button.
- Make sure Microphone permission is granted.
- Open the panel and check the Filter settings — if Transcript or Insights are toggled off in Show in feed, turn them back on.
- Confirm Hide notifications isn't on if you're expecting on-screen pop-ups.
I hit my meeting limit
If recording stops and you see Meeting limit reached — "Upgrade your plan to record more meetings" — you've used your monthly meetings. Open Plans & Usage in the web app to upgrade. See Plans and billing.
My calendar isn't syncing
- In the web app, open Integrations and confirm Google Calendar shows Connected.
- If it's disconnected, click Connect and approve access again.
- If meetings still don't appear, disconnect and reconnect. See Connecting Google Calendar.
I can't sign in to the desktop app
- Signing in opens your browser to authenticate, then returns you to the app. If nothing happens after you finish in the browser, bring the MagicScreen app back to the foreground.
- Make sure you're using the same method (email or Google) you signed up with.
- Confirm you're connected to the internet, then try Sign in again.
I can't find a file, meeting, or note
Check that you're in the right workspace. Data is scoped per workspace — use the workspace switcher to move between your Personal space and any organizations. See Workspaces and organizations.
A file is stuck processing
Large files take a little while. The file detail page shows "This file is still being indexed…" or "Script is still being parsed…" and refreshes automatically. If it never completes, try deleting and re-uploading the file. See Building your knowledge base.
